Crystal Hoffman has adapted theatrically and deconstructed performatively numerous poems and other pieces of texts by avant-garde artists that she admires, such as Emmy Hennings, Mina Loy, Laura Riding, Hugo Ball, Tristan Tzara, and Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven.
Often as a part of a TypewriterGirls performance and occasionally on her own as a scholar of the historical Avant-garde, she adds physicality (most recently by adding acrobatics and dance to interpretations of pieces), music, dialogue, interaction, and other theatrical components to pieces in order to make them the living, breathing, vital, relevant, striking, and interesting works that she believes the artists intended them to be.
